Zama Birthing – HypnoBirthing® taught by a certified Marie Mongan HypnoBirthing Practitioner in Singapore.
Hi my name is Rowan and I am a qualified Mongan Method HypnoBirthing Practitioner affiliated with the HypnoBirthing Institute (check my registration details here).
I am teaching classes to pregnant women and their birth partners seeking a more gentle, natural birth in the East Coast of Singapore.
My background is in medical science. I have a Bachelor’s degree (first class) and a Masters (with distinction) in Biomedical Science and spent 14 years working in diagnostic laboratories in hospitals in the United Kingdom, finally spending 5 years as a senior scientist at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
My HypnoBirthing – Journey to a Natural Birth
Part of me was always thinking “is this for real?” when I read about HypnoBirthing and the tabloid stories of women taking these classes during pregnancy in preparation for childbirth, perhaps most notably rumours The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton was using these techniques for the birth of Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Ever the scientist I began researching HypnoBirthing during the early weeks of my first pregnancy. I liked the idea of learning this technique for natural birthing but my doctor husband seemed to find the idea a little far-fetched. I maintained that there was no harm in trying and proceeded to read the book and begin listening to the Rainbow Relaxation CD. Honestly as soon as I read the first few chapters of the book I was a believer. The very logical explanations of birthing physiology appealed to my scientific training and made perfect sense….why WAS childbirth considered one of the most uncomfortable events in life when our bodies are designed to do it? There had to be something else at work. Through the course materials I learned about fear-tension-pain syndrome and the effects of adrenaline and the other catecholamines on the laboring body. More importantly I learned about the wonder of endorphins a natural pain relief more powerful by far than morphine and the ‘love’ hormone oxytocin and how to bring about their release as a tool for not simply managing but loving childbirth.
I was convinced. And after seeing it in action so was my husband. In fact he was the one to encourage my training as a Practitioner.
But that was me, and this is you and your pregnancy. Please read lots and make your own decisions. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and if or when you are ready to book on to a course.
Whether you are looking for a natural birth, a water birth, VBAC or simply a better birth experience get in touch.
I look forward to sharing these amazing techniques with the pregnant ladies of Singapore and their birth partners.
